What is Vatngaard really?

Vatngaard is a realm from the imagination of author Herbert West. The name is my spin on Miðgarðr, the realm of mortals in Norse mythology. While Miðgarðr means 'Middle Enclosure,' Vatngaard, drawing from the Old Norse/Icelandic word 'Vatn' for water, emphasizes water as a defining characteristic of this world – much like our own Earth is predominantly water. It is a realm shaped by this fundamental element, within the larger cosmos of the 'Tales from Vatngaard' series.

Who/what are your inspirations?

Too many to mention. Terry Pratchett, Sandman, Dalton Trumbo and of course Icelandic sagas and folklore. Kief is a character I role played back in the day, a notorious character in my group.

It started out as a comic book back in 1992 then simply named Kief if I remember correctly. I got a few artist to give it a shot but it fizzled. So the core idea is over 30 years old, 4 years ago I started on a bible for the world with the intent on finally getting this story out there.
